Eggs for sale!

Here at Emma’s Eggs, our chickens are raised in a pastured and stress free environment with plenty to do all day long and listen to classical music all night! Coop door automatically opens at 9AM and hens have run of the property while Emma keeps an eye (and ear) out for both ground and aerial predators. Because of the conditions , egg production is never at a low! With our 85+ laying hen flock, we typically have 4+ dozen eggs per day (yes, we can’t find all the hidden ones).

Our chickens are fed all natural grain and eat bugs, grubs, and greens from fields without any pesticides. Our chickens are 100% GMO free, cage free, free range, organic, AND pastured! Yes, all that! Our eggs always have that nice orange-y yolk!

Unless requested, our eggs are not washed, but do not worry! By nature, the hens lay a protective ‘bloom’ surrounding the egg that keeps the porous shell from absorbing harmful outside elements. If left unwashed, the eggs can remain on the counter (out of direct sunlight) for a modest amount of time. This is a tasty conversation starter and edible island decor. But… you can always refrigerate.

Delivery & Pickup

If you are local to the farm, delivery is free! If not, we can agree on a fair delivery charge or you can always drop by to pick up your order (and say hi to Emma and her flock)..

***REMEMBER***

Even though our chickens work day and night to provide you a tastiest of meals, sometimes an egg may have imperfections. These imperfections typically do not affect the flavor or health factor at all, but if you are not satisfied with an egg or two, we’ll be more than happy to make it right on your next order.

Pullets & Chicks

As well as eggs, we will raise chicks for you! If you are interested in the farm life, but don’t know how to raise a chick, or just don’t want to, we got you covered. We will raise them until they are classified as a pullet for that breed, which can range between 16 weeks-28 weeks. The chicks are kept in our ‘pullet pen’ until matured. Its a double level housing space with a wood frame and chicken wore as walls. The dimensions are 4ft x 10ft x 4ft for the first level, & 4ft x 10ft x 2ft for the second level.

We order our chicks from a hatchery in Texas during the beginning of winter and get them delivered by mail to our home in Clifton. We order them in the beginning of winter, so they will be ready for spring. Before we place the order, we will contact you and ask you how many chicks you are interested in, and what breeds you are interested in. As soon as you decide, the chicken is bought, whichever breed you decide upon will affect the price. Once here, they are treated as well as any of the other full grown hens, plus all the things needed for a chick to live. These things include a heating lamp, chick feed, and antibiotics. The aforementioned items will be included in your lump price as well. The antibiotics will not affect the future eggs in any way.

Delivery & Pickup

We would prefer you to come pick up your pullets yourself, its a huge occasion after all! But we understand how busy you may be and if you live within a 5 mile radius of Clifton VA, and need us to deliver to you, we will do so free of charge. If you are further than 20 miles, contact us to determine a price.

***DISCLAIMER***

During the first week or two, chicks have a very high mortality rate. We have yet to have a batch where all chicks have survived. This is not an error on our end or the hatcheries end, some just do not survive. If one of your chicks dies under our care, we offer a full refund in return.

Matured Hens

As well as eggs and pullets, we offer our  matured hens that have slowed egg production, or stopped laying altogether. These hens usually range from 18 – 30 months old, and can vary in weight and friendliness. Our hens will not scratch or peck your young children, but they may run away from you . These chickens make great pets! Even if you get a not so friendly bird, they will come out of their shell with enough time and, if given the proper care, can live up to 7 years!

1 Matured Hen .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  $5-10 Depending On Size

Size is a huge variable in price because of their meat content. Once we sell our chickens, they’re yours! We have had customers buy up to ten matured hens and cook them for a party they were having! Different breeds will have different weights, this may cause some breeds meat to feel tough or stringy. This is because they were bred for egg laying, not consumption, this does not mean they are not edible. If you are buying a chicken with the intention to keep it as a pet, you must still pay according to their weight.

Delivery & Pickup

As with the other two items, you can pick this up free of charge, or we can deliver the Hens to you if you live with a five mile radius of Clifton Virginia

***DISCLAIMER***

We do not butcher our own chickens. In all honesty, its to emotional to do ourselves. So if you buy a chicken with the intent to cook it, you will have to butcher and pluck it on your own.
